Prismatic Elements in the Boundary Layer
Triangles on the boundary surface are used as a starting point to create layers of prismatic elements in the near-wall regions. The structured nature of the prisms (wedges) in the normal to surface direction exploits the advantages of traditional structured grid approaches. In particular, prismatic grids offer good orthogonality and clustering capabilities. The algebraic marching procedure is extremely fast and efficient. The CENTAUR prismatic grid generator also provides the added feature of marching along arbitrary boundary surfaces.
