Shinjuku, Tokyo Wind Analysis
The Shinjuku special ward of Tokyo contains a large number of skyscrapers which pose several interesting wind engineering problems including how the wind shed will affect pedestrians nearby and the microclimate of the surrounding region. The dispersion of pollutants around buildings in a downtown area like this is also an important area of study. Field measurements from 1977 exist and are useful for validating wind models.
An STL model of the Shinjuku region circa 1977 was meshed using CENTAUR. The model included both high-rise and low-rise buildings in the area. The hybrid grid has a prismatic boundary layer mesh and tetrahedra away from the buildings. An all tetrahedral mesh has also been created.
