Open-wheel Racing Car
This geometry represents the flow around the front forebody of an open-wheel racing car. All details of the wheel spokes and brakes were modeled. The full details of the front fins were also studied. The case involved a tire-roadway contact region with a 3 degree angle between the tire and the road. The roadway clearance was just a few centimeters. CENTAUR was used to create a hybrid mesh including prismatic elements on all car surfaces as well as the roadway. Prismatic elements were present in every small gap present in the geometry. Tetrahedra completed the hybrid mesh filling the remainder of the domain.
