Rocket Propulsion
This page presents two representative rocket propulsion geometries: a liquid-fuel rocket engine and a hybrid/solid rocket motor. Both models were meshed using CENTAUR with fully hybrid meshes.
For the liquid rocket engine, a hybrid mesh was created using CENTAUR, capturing the smooth curvature of the nozzle and the narrow throat region with prism layers for accurate boundary-layer resolution. Rotational periodicity and volume mesh cloning were also implemented on the nozzle.
For the hybrid rocket motor, as an additional feature, two surface meshes were produced for the fuel grain — one using anisotropic unstructured quadrilaterals to reduce element count along elongated features, and another with isotropic quads for uniform resolution.
